PATHWAY COACH
The British Nordic Development Squad (BNDS) is part of a long-term athlete pathway from club athlete to national senior level for cross-country skiing in the UK, with a focus on athletes from club level (minimum age 12) to World Junior and U23 level who are based in the UK and overseas. The Pathway Coach is responsible for supporting BNDS athletes through planning, coordination and delivery of a training and racing programme. This role is a unique opportunity to contribute to the development of cross-country skiing in the UK and support talented athletes aspiring to represent the UK on the world stage.

Job Title: British Nordic Development Squad Pathway Coach
Location: Remote working for management days, attendance at training camps throughout Europe for coaching days
Contract Type: Part time, freelance. Approximately 90 days work per year, a combination of coaching and management days
Objectives:

Coach skiers from club athlete (12 years upwards) through to the Home Nations Performance Pathway Squad:

Create a yearly programme of training and race camps

Support the technical and physical development of BNDS athletes

Monitor progression along the performance pathway within BNDS

Roles and responsibilities
Coaching
-
Lead training and racing camps with BNDS Athletes:
-
Provide technical coaching and feedback
-
Plan training and race camp schedules
-

Write training plans
-
Monitor athlete performance and liaise with athletes
-
Athlete welfare responsibility on camps
Planning
-
Create a yearly programme of training and race camps to facilitate progression along the performance pathway

Monitor athlete progression along the pathway
-
Coordinate camp planning & logistics with support from BNDS Committee

Manage budgets and costings for BNDS activities in liaison with committee finance officers

Maintain a team of coaches to coach on BNDS camps as required
Relationship Management

Develop members understanding of BNDS aims & objectives

Key point of contact for BNDS athletes and parents

Report to the BNDS Management Committee

Work closely with Snowsport Scotland Development and Performance Pathway coaches, plus other NGB coaches as appropriate, to ensure smooth transitions into BNDS and onto other areas of the pathway
Skills & Experience

Competitive skiing background preferred
-
Experience leading camps and working with athletes in the 12-18 age group

Good communication and leadership skills

Good organisational skills
Qualifications
-
Snowsport Scotland Level 2 coaching qualification (or equivalent)

Full clean driving licence
-
PVG scheme membership will be mandatory
Employment Arrangements

Competitive rate of pay, subject to negotiation based on experience

The role reports to the BNDS Management Committee through attendance at monthly committee meetings.

Line management is provided by the BNDS Chair

This is a freelance and part-time position, the Pathway Coach is not an employee of BNDS
